The Barcelona and the Real Madrid football clubs

On the 26th of November 2011, Sandro Rosell the chairman of FC Barcelona announced that starting from 2012, for the next five years Barça will host a youth football training campus at the Beijing National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest.

On the 2nd of August 2011, the Chinese Evergrande Real Estate Groups’s chairman Xu Jiayin signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Real Madrid C.F.’s chairman Florentino Pérez. The agreement’s subject is the future construction of Asia’s largest football academy for 10,000 students.

According to said agreement, the cooperation between the Evergrande and the Real Madrid will extend to the organising of youth training, competitions, player recruitment and training, brand marketing and all. In the youth training the Real Madrid will periodically provide professional trainers for the academy, and later will recruit potential talents from here for the team in Madrid. Moreover the Real Madrid will provide regular training opportunities for the Evergrande youth trainers. The first step of the joint project will be the investment of 1 billion Yuan (approx. 100 million Euros) into the construction of the largest ever football academy on the continent.

Real Madrid runs over one hundred football academies worldwide, but in China, this will be the first one. At start they plan to recruit 3150 students in 63 classes and all together 126 teams. The teaching and administrative staff will number 435 workers. The academy will provide education for 4th 5th and 6th elementary, junior middle and senior middle school students; the plan is to start school on the 1st of September 2013.
